I am a sucker for bad reality television. I simply cannot help myself. One of the shows I was sucked into watching after upgrading my satellite withhttp://www.expertsatellite.com/direct-tv/direct-tv-satellite-dish-alabama.html was anything and everything about the Kardashian family. From Khloe and Lamar, Kim and Kourtney Take New York to Keeping Up with the Kardashians, I must watch them all because I find the entire family mildly entertaining on many levels. The most recent spectacle that caught my eye was the Kim andKris wedding special and quick divorce announcement. Although there is speculation that the entire wedding was a PR stunt, it still does not take away from the “kraziness” surrounding Kim’s big day and her even bigger divorce announcement. When watching the wedding special, I was amazed at how lavish and extravagant every detail was. From the three bridal gowns, to the flowers, to the rhinestone details at every turn - this Kardashian event was not one to be missed. Now, the family has me more hooked than ever to stay tuned and see what happens next!

I accomplished the inevitable this week. I knew it would happen, but was hoping it would be delayed as long as possible. I was in a rush and dropped my computer – my new computer that I had owned for barely a year. As I went pick it up off of the ground, I said a little prayer and hoped it wasn’t broken. Good news, it still worked; bad news, the glass cover over the screen was cracked. Not only did I use it for keeping in touch with friends and checking up on my shows on www.ExpertSatellite.com, but I also need it for work. So, I quickly made an appointment at the store where I bought it, hoping they would be able to tell me it could be saved at a reasonable price; in different words, they basically said I was better off getting a new one. Next, I found the most reputable repair company I could and sent them a request for a quote; I was given the same reply that I had previously received.

I thought that once I found the right home and got my boxes in, I’d be all done! I was so pumped when I was able to find the perfect house and even more excited when my financing came through! But let me tell you, from the time I moved in until today, all I have done is worry about home improvements! I knew the house was going to be a lot of work since it was so old and in places in stages of disrepair, but still, I didn’t imagine I’d be spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours just getting this place liveable. I have just heard in the news that the price of jeepney and bus fares have already increased. This is another burden added to the shoulders of the common people. When will this suffering end?

A few months ago, the price of rice has gone up to very shocking heights. A family has to spend at most 200 to 300 pesos to have a decent amount of rice for daily consumption. And the issue on wage hike is still being deliberated. And now, another increase in the fare has been officially announced. What's next? I couldn't think of anything good that is gonna come out of this. I hope the government finds a way to alleviate the situation and solve the current problems facing this country.

I know that times are hard that's why I opted to really plan out my budget well. I don't want to spend for things that are not important. I should be wary about spending and that I should do well with my current job so that I will be promoted or at least keep it for as long as I am needed.

In times like this, the people should really unite in prayer and do their best to solve the challenges of the society. The government and the private sector as well as the people should work hand in hand so that these trials will be overcome.

It has been a while since I last updated this blog but I just want you all to know that I am having a great time this holiday season with my family. I really miss them. It is hard to work away from your loved ones and I only get to spend time with much longer during Christmas.

We had just finished shopping and the malls were really spilling with a lot of shoppers. I bought Mom a new dress and she was thrilled to wear it on the Christmas Eve. My cousins were also busy packing their gifts and I am right here busy making this post.

Halloween was scary

We spent Halloween in my aunt's haus and it was indeed spooky. I can even compare it to the Ghost Whisperer episode where Jennifer Love Hewitt's character sees dead people or ghosts and all.

I have this cousin who claims she has third eye. She really got us scared with her stories and apparitions.

Dennis Trillo: ‘Yes, I’m the father of Carlene’s baby’

In an exclusive interview with Showbiz Central Sunday, Dennis confirmed that his surname was given to a baby boy who was born last September 22 in Los Angeles, California.

“Tingin ko nararapat lang din naman na gamitin yung apelyido ko kasi baby ko naman yun e,” he said.

He said he fully accepts the responsibility as the father of the boy adding:

“Sa akin naman wala namang problema iyon e kasi tatanggapin ko naman yun ng buong-buo and responsibility ko yun bilang ama. Kung anumang suporta yung kailangan niya andito naman ako.”

He added: “Wala namang problema ‘yun sa akin dahil binata naman ako, nasa tamang edad and kung anuman yung responsibilidad na andyan wala akong balak na talikuran yun. “Nung nagkita sila ni Kuya Lhar Santiago sa States nakitang buntis nga siya, itinanggi niyang ako yung ama siyempre akala ko tapos na dun yung issue until lumabas yung balita na buntis nga siya and ako yung ama,” he said.

Asked about his relationship with Carlene now, Dennis said they were on the rocks.

“Sa ngayon medyo malabo yung sitwasyon namin dahil naging kumplikado ‘yung mga bagay bagay,” he said.

Dennis and Carlene were already in a relationship long before he joined the GMA Network.

“Kami ni Carlene kasi matagal yung pinagsamahan namin. Matagal ko siyang naging girlfriend. Siguro mga four o mga five (years) bago pa ako pumasok ng GMA girlfriend ko na siya. Although ngayon medyo hirap yung communication naming, bihira na lang kami makapag-usap,” he said.

Dennis added he is also willing to talk with Carlene and her parents to settle things for his baby.

“Willing naman ako makipag-ayos sa kanila or sa parents niya para maayos kung anuman yung dapat ayusin para siyempre dun sa bata. Siyempre hindi ko yun pababayaan anak ko yun e,” he said.

He also asked his fans to continue their support for him.

“Gusto kong iparating sa inyong lahat na sana wag pa rin kayong magsasawang sumuporta. Gagawin ko pa rin lahat para mapagbuti ‘yung trabaho ko para kahit may mga issue na ganito ay patuloy pa rin yung suporta ninyo sa akin dahil mahal ko itong trabahong ko at mahal ko yung mga taong nakaka-appreciate sa akin kaya keep the faith.”

Dennis said he felt relieved after making the admission.

“Pakiramdam ko mas magkakaroon ako ng peace of mind dahil …kasi hindi ko naman matatago yun habambuhay dahil talagang dumarating sa parte ng isang tao ‘yung ganun nagkakaroon ng anak , parte ng buhay yun e, so yun yung inevitable sa isang buhay,” he said.

Jinkee wants Ara to return all Manny’s gifts

WE wonder if all these talks linking Manny Pacquiao to Ara Mina will help his career in boxing or even in showbiz. We know they have a Metro filmfest entry, “Anak ng Kumander”, but we doubt if rumors of their romance that obviously irks Manny’s wife, Jinkee, no end, will add up to its box office appeal. Earlier, it was reported that it’s Jinkee who vehemently objected to Ara’s singing the national anthem in Manny’s coming fight in Las Vegas with Barrera, so she was replaced by Kyla.

The latest development is that a disgusted Jinkee recently confronted Ara and asked her to return all the extravagant gifts Manny gave her, including a new car, diamond ring, necklace and a set of earrings. Since it’s been written that Ara bought a new house, it’s said Jinkee is demanding that it also be returned to them, even if Ara sold her old house and a condo unit just to purchase that.

Jinkee is really on the warpath, especially after she heard that Ara is the real reason why Manny came home from L.A. and chose to do his training here in Manila and that he paid Ara P3 million just to be his leading lady. (If this were true, Ara would now be the country’s highest paid actress.)

Ara told a friend she’s wishing all these nasty rumors about her and Manny would end soon.

“Gaga ba naman akong papatol sa isang taong alam kong may asawa’t mga anak na?” she said. “I’m sick and tired of intrigues, sa totoo lang.”

Is it true she’s sore at GMA-7 for not choosing her to sing “Lupang Hinirang” in Manny’s next fight?

“No, naisip kong mabuti na rin ngang hindi akong napiling kumanta ng national anthem, kundi lalo pa kong naintriga.”

Aside from her movie with Manny, she’s also doing “Selda” with Sid Lucero and Emilio Garcia. “Bakit kaya sa kanila, hindi ako nali-link? Bakit kay Manny lang? For a change, di ba? Nakakasawa na ‘yang sa amin ni Manny, e,” she laughs.

As for Jinkee, we’re told she’s often seen in beauty shops these days to have beauty treatments and make-overs, just to make sure that she’s in top fighting form and won’t be eclipsed by Ara. Was Snooky ‘raped?’

Actress Snooky Serna on Sunday admitted that she was raped when she was 14 years old but declined to give details of the incident.

“I hope people will respect that I don’t want to be so graphic and detailed about it because I have children and I’m [neither] out to embarrass my children nor my family, my friends and even my ex-husband,” she said.

The former child star even threatened to cut the interview short after Showbiz Central’s host John Lapus asked her to identify the attacker.

“John, magwawalkout ako dito…let’s respect other people. I have feelings, too…it happened in the house…that time hindi ako nagsumbong because I was shocked. I was 14. Parang ang feeling ko I was robbed of my innocence, of my childhood,” she said.

She added: “I was forcibly made to indulge in that and I’m not proud of it and I don’t want to…sana ayokong ma-prolong ito. I’m so honest for my own good. Sometimes na ngayon ko naisip yung repercussion na baka mamaya maging malaking issue ito masyado at mapapasama pa yung tao, nananahimik na. I‘m sure that he’s also sorry for whatever he’s done. Ayoko naman magkaroon ng serious repercussion.”

Snooky first made the admission in the radio program of DJ Mo Twister last Wednesday.

She said she made the confession to Mo Twister because she felt the radio program was the perfect venue to say it.

She said she told her children about her experience to warn them.

“You wouldn’t believe it but I also told my children about it. I’m very open about everything in my life sa mga mahal ko sa buhay. Parang I gave them warning, ‘Sabi ko don’t be too naïve. Talagang tatanga-tanga ako nong bata ako. I was so innocent. I was so naïve,’” she said.

She said she had to go through counseling and psychiatric treatment to help overcome her trauma.

“I thanked God that with the help of my parents and family support and also psychiatric treatment, I had to go through counseling. Nakatulong ‘yun for me to overcome and to have the strength to tell everyone about it,” she said.

She added: “Nagkaroon ako ng low self-esteem because I was raped. I was forcibly asked to do something na labag sa loob ko.”

“Be careful…yun pa kayang boyfriend na you have romantic feelings for each other. You have to use your brains,” she advised teenagers.

Snooky said aside from doing it for herself, she wants to send a message to other women who were also victims of sexual abuse.

“There is always life after a tragic incident. Ang problema may katapusan. Lahat ng problema may kasagutan at lahat ng problema matatapos din ‘yan but ikaw yung sarili mo, yung pagkatao mo you have to move on. You have to be flexible with the changes in your life,” she said.

Marian on row about her true mom: I’m certain of my identity

Young actress Marian Rivera on Sunday said she is certain of her identity as she denied the claim of a woman that she is her missing daughter.

“Sinasabi ko po sa inyo nagkakamali po kayo, hindi po ako ‘yung nawawala ninyong anak. Sana po balang-araw matagpuan n’yo po siya,” she said in a taped interview with GMA’s Showbiz Central.

The entertainment talk show was able to interview Edna, the woman claiming to be the mother of Marimar lead star.

Edna said she gave birth to a fair-complexioned, bedimpled baby girl on May 20, 1982 in Calamba, Laguna.

She said weeks after she gave birth, her child got sick and because she cannot afford bringing the child to the doctor, she sought the help of her former employer.

“Nakita ni Ate Baby na maganda ang anak ko tapos sabi ni Ate Baby siya na lang daw ang nagpapagamot, sabi ko sige, Ate Baby,” the woman said.

“Kulang kulang dalawang oras may dumating nga po. Ang pumasok po tatlong lalaki at dalawang babae. Ang mga lalaki mga naka-attaché case po tapos yung babaeng isa agad agad niyang binihisan yung anak ko… e dahil mahirap lang po ako wala akong magawa. Isa pa po naniwala ako sa sabi niya na isang linggo lamang ibabalik niya yung anak ko. Nung paalis na sabi ko, Ate hahalik lang ako, (sabi niya) huwag, huwag ka nang lumapit, ayun iyak na ko ng iyak,” Edna narrated.

Edna said seven years later, she returned to her Ate Baby to get her child. It was then that she learned her child entered show business.

She said her insistence irritated Ate Baby who threatened to kill her if she would not stop bothering her.

Edna added an illness that paralyzed her whole body was the main reason she stopped looking for her children for years.

When she finally recovered from her illness, she continued her search and learned that her child is now popularly known as Marian Rivera.

Edna said the only proof she had of her missing daughter is a birth certificate.

“Wala na po akong katibayan kundi ang mukha niya, kamukha siya ng kanyang ama. Basta ewan ko lukso ng dugo siguro, basta nagkakapareho po ang ano nila, yung ngiti, kamukha siya ng kanyang ama. Kapag nakikita ko siya parang nakikita ko ang kanyang ama,” she said.

She said she only wanted Marian to learn the truth.

“Ang akin lang pong hangad kaya ko gustong masabi yan dahil baka ako ay mamatay wala pong magsasabi ng totoo,” she said.

For her part, Marian said she feels sad for Edna.

“Nalulungkot ako kasi ako yung sinasabi niyang nawawala niyang anak pero sigurado ako sa sarili ko na hindi naman ako ‘yun.”

The Pinoy Marimar said, contrary to Edna’s belief, she was born on August 12, 1984 in Madrid, Spain and she grew up with her grandmother in Cavite.

“May mga birth certificate ako d’yan at saka may mga documents ako na magpapatunay na dun talaga ako pinanganak,” she said.

She added her real surname is Gracia and not Rivera.

“Yung Papa ko po pure Spanish po siya. Ang pangalan niya Francisco Javier Alonso Gracia. Ang Mama ko po Amalia Mallari Rivera so ‘yung Rivera na ginagamit ko ngayon sa Mama ko po ‘yun. Ang totoong apelyido ko Gracia,” she explained.

GMA 7 bags Philippine ‘Idol’

“Philippine Idol’s” season 2 will be aired on GMA 7, according to Geraldine Bravo, director of Marketing and Sales for FremantleMedia, “Idol” franchise holder.

“We are very fortunate to find a new partner to produce ‘Philippine Idol,’” said Bravo in an official statement sent to Inquirer Entertainment on Friday.

The first season of the reality singing contest was aired by ABC 5 last year.

ABC 5 earlier insisted that it was still “deep in discussions with Fremantle and … barring any major glitch … [we will] still mount the second season.”

Sought to comment on the new development, ABC 5, through senior vice president for Corporate Affairs Terra Daffon, said, “ABC 5 is still waiting for official word from Fremantle.”

Bravo’s formal announcement, however, sealed the deal with GMA 7. “It is our intention to make [RP ‘Idol’] the biggest show the Philippines has ever seen,” Bravo said.

According to various sources, the show’s target launch is February 2008.

An insider told the Inquirer on Wednesday that GMA 7 had bagged the show as of Tuesday night.

The source claimed that GMA 7 would treat its RP “Idol” as a totally new show, independent of the first season—meaning, Mau Marcelo would not be considered the first winner.

But another informant said, “Fremantle should be the one to make such decisions.”

Wilma Galvante, GMA 7 senior vice president for Entertainment TV, said, “As far as we are concerned, this is our first partnership with Fremantle for the ‘Idol’ franchise.”

Bravo’s announcement, Galvante added, merely “means that [both parties] have agreed that GMA 7 has the experience, resources and people to mount talent-search programs [like ‘Idol’].”

In the statement, Bravo said there was no problem in finding talented singers in the Philippines. “The challenge is to keep the show interesting, by providing the viewers with an insight into the journeys that the singers are [taking].”

Galvante agreed: “That’s the essence of the ‘Idol’ franchise.” However, she declined to comment on ABC 5’s status. “That’s between ABC 5 and the people it was talking to in Fremantle.”

According to Bravo’s statement, “Fremantle has taken into consideration several parties to be the possible home of [RP ‘Idol’].” The statement reiterated that Fremantle considered GMA 7 as “an excellent partner … having licensed other [Fremantle] shows like ‘Celebrity Duets,’ ‘Whammy,’ and ‘Family Feud.’”

One source said Regine Velasquez was being eyed as new ‘Idol’ host; another claimed that Ryan Agoncillo and Ryan Cayabyab would be retained as host and judge, respectively. “It’s too early to go into such details,” said Galvante.

Another question is whether Marcelo would compete in “Asian Idol” in November. According to a source, it was still undecided whether GMA 7 would participate in “Asian Idol” or whether record label Sony-BMG would field Marcelo in the regional contest in Jakarta.

Quite tellingly, Jan Nieto, Marcelo’s runner-up on Idol, is also signing up with GMA 7.

Dumiresto si Sunshine at ang iba pang cast ng naturang soap opera pagkatapos ng live guest appearance nila sa Startalk kung saan natanong siya, among other things, tungkol sa rumored boyfriend niya na si Jojo Manlongat at kay Angelu de Leon, na siyang nagbuking ng relasyon nila.Ayaw nang pag-usapan ni Sunshine ang dalawang issues kung kaya’t ibang topics na lang ang itinanong sa kanya ng entertainment press, including ang balitang lilipat siya sa ABS-CBN at balitang si Becky Aguila na rin daw ang kanyang manager.

“Ha? Ewan ko, saan nanggaling ‘yon?” nagtatakang sabi ni Sunshine.

“If ever, kung kinausap man siya ng nanay ko, she has the right because she [her mother] is my manager. Pero kung ako, no hindi ako nakipag-usap at wala namang sinabi ang nanay ko. I represented myself during the contract signing,” paliwanag ni Sunshine sa tanong kung sino ang humarap for her as a manager.

Isa pa sa mga dahilan kung bakit umugong ang balita na lilipat siya sa kabilang istasyon dahil in one interview, na lumabas din dito sa PEP, ay ipinagtanggol niya raw si Angel Locsin sa paglipat nito sa ABS-CBN.

“Ang sabi ko lang, Angel has the right to do what she wants. Kung ako rin naman ‘yon, I mean it’s my decision whether to stay or not. We’re not friends, hindi nga kami nagkasama sa kahit anong show. Nakikita ko lang ang decision niya as an artist,” pahayag ni Sunshine.

Sunshine, meanwhile, is staying with GMA-7. Kung aalis daw siya, magpapaalam siya nang maayos.

“Doon yata nagkagulo kasi hindi nagpaalam properly,” ani Sunshine.

Hindi pa alam ni Sunshine kung ano ang next show niya sa Kapuso network, pero definitely ay sa primetime pa rin daw ito.

Huling kulit namin kay Sunshine regarding Jojo, ibalato na lang daw namin sa kanya ‘yon.

Wala rin siyang comment about Angelu.

“She’s not a friend, I’m not her friend so wala kaming issue,” pagtatapos niya.

One of the brightest young stars of GMA-7 nang magsisimula ang milenyo and starring in three concurrent shows—Di Ba’t Ikaw, SOP, and Bubble Gang—isa dapat si Luis sa mga ilu-launch noon sa pinakabagong teen show ng GMA-7 na Click.

Hindi ito natuloy at inilipat agad siya sa ABS-CBN kung saan isang high-profile show agad ang ibinigay sa kanya, as the love triangle of Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa sa Pangako Sa ‘Yo. Sinundan agad ito ng isa pang high-profile soap, ang Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan opposite Claudine Barretto and still another one, ang Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas na pinagsamahan muli nina Echo and Tin-Tin.

“Nung time na ‘yon, nagkaroon ng misunderstanding sa amin ng then Artist Center head Rhadya [Bocobo]. Dapat sana, ilalagay ako sa Super Klenk [starring Ara Mina] pero hindi ako nasabihan na tinanggal na pala ako. Kinausap namin ng parents ko si Rhadya bakit nagkaganoon. Ang sagot sa akin, ‘Wala ka nang aura.’ Wala na raw akong glow.

“I was very young then so na-traumatized ako. Sabi ng parents ko, ‘If that’s how you see it, might as well stop showbiz na.’ Ready na talaga akong mag-quit noon sa showbiz and then ABS-CBN made an offer so I moved,” kuwento ni Luis.

As early as last year, nang wala nang kontrata si Luis sa ABS-CBN, tinanong na rin siya kung available na ba siyang magtrabaho muli sa GMA-7.

“Kararating ko pa lang noon from the States. Nag-recuperate ako due to my knee injury,” sabi niya.

Sa party ni Victor Neri noon, natanong siya ng kanyang magiging production manager sa Impostora na si Redgynn Alba kung puwede na siyang lumabas sa GMA-7. Pero dumating naman ang Gulong Ng Palad, so naghintay muli ang Kapuso network kung kailan na siya available.

Nang natapos ang Gulong, in-offer ang Impostora kay Luis at tinanggap na niya ito.

Ngayong magtatapos na ang Impostora, may nakahanda na ring show para kay Luis, an afternoon soap muna bago siya bumalik sa primetime.

Bago pa man pagkaguluhan ng mga kalalakihan ang men’s magazine na FHM, unang kinahumalingan ng mga Pinoy ang US magazine na “Playboy” na nagsimula noong 1950’s. Kilala nyo ba kung sino ang unang Pinay actress na nag-pose sa magazine na ito?

Taong 1982 nang maging kontrobersiyal si Techie Agbayani dahil sa “mapangahas” niyang pag-pose ng hubo’t hubad sa German edition ng Playboy.

Ngunit hindi si Techie kundi si Marissa Delgado ang sinasabing unang Pinay actress na nag-pose sa US edition ng Playboy noong 1965. Ngunit hindi sa centerfold ng magazine nasilayan ang kagandahan ni Marissa. At likuran bahagi lamang ng kanyang katawan ang kanyang “ipinasilip.”

Ang unang Pinay na sinasabing nag-pose para sa centerfold ng magazine ay si Lourdes Estores na nakabase sa Hawaii. Ang iba pang Pinay o dugong Pinay nakita na sa men’s magazine na ito ay sina Pia Reyes, Motley Crue, Brandi Brandt, Kim Herrin at Lana Asanin.

Joey de Leon takes leave of absence from “Startalk,” hurt by MTRCB Chair’s threat

Walang katiyakan kung kailan babalik sa Startalk si Joey de Leon dahil nasaktan ito sa latest move ni Consoliza Laguardia, Chair ng MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board).

Ipinatawag ni Laguardia sa MTRCB office noong Huwebes, September 13, ang mga representatives ng Startalk dahil hindi niya nagustuhan ang patuloy na paglalabas ng naturang programa ng mga kuwento tungkol sa feud nina Joey at Willie Revillame.

Matatandaang pumasok sa issue ang MTRCB noong August 31 at nakipagpulong sa dalawang hosts para matigil ang alitan ng mga ito, na napapanood ng madla sa telebisyon. Nagbitaw si Willie ng apology noong September 4, pero hindi ito tinanggap ni Joey.

Sinabi ni Joey sa Startalk noong September 8 na hindi ganoon kadaling kalimutan ang mga pahayag ni Willie laban sa kanya.

Ani Joey, “Ang hiniling ko talaga kumpleto. Kung napanood n’yo, sabi ko, gagawin niya uli yung sinabi niya kaya lang kabaligtaran. Wala nang pag-akusa at hiniling ko talaga na meron ding dalawang nakatayo dito na dalawang co-hosts na umiiyak. Seryoso ako nun…”

Dagdag pa niya, “Kailangan gawin n’yo yun. Alam ko baka maging katawa-katawa sa iba, pero seryoso ako dun. Pag ginawa n’yo ‘yon, wala na, palalagpasin ko na lahat ng nasabi n’yo kahit nasiraan na ako sa iba ng pangalan.”

Noong Sabado, September 15, isang sulat ang ipinadala ni Joey sa staff ng Startalk. Nakasaad dito ang kanyang indefinite leave of absence sa talk show.

Ikinalungkot ng staff ang desisyon ni Joey pero mas ikinalungkot ng mga hosts na sina Lolit Solis, Butch Francisco, at Lorna Tolentino ang ipinahayag ni Laguardia na sususpendihin nito ang kanilang show kapag ininterbyu pa nila si Joey ukol sa isyu.

Si Lolit, na minsang sinuspinde ni Laguardia dahil sa pagsasabi ng salitang “puwerta” sa ere, ang pinaka-vocal sa pagsasalita. Masamang-masama ang loob niya kay Laguardia dahil sinasaklawan raw nito ang freedom of speech at freedom of expression.

Ang pahayag ng beteranang manager, “Nagkamali ako noon kaya tinanggap ko ang suspension ng MTRCB pero hindi na ako natutuwa sa mga ginagawa ni Laguardia. Walang violation na ginagawa ang Startalk. Bakit siya magbabanta ng suspension? Ganoon lang ba kadali ‘yon?

“Hindi ako natatakot na sabihin ang aking opinyon at lalong hindi ako natatakot na muli niya akong suspendihin dahil sa pagsasalita ko ng katotohanan. Hindi rin ako worried na baka hindi na niya ako bigyan ng MTRCB Deputy Card dahil ginagamit ko lang naman ito kapag nakikiihi ako sa mga sinehan!”

Maging ang ilan sa MTRCB employees ay dismayado raw sa concern na ipinakikita ni Chair Laguardia sa feud nina Joey at Willie.

Ayon sa kanila, ginagamit marahil ni Laguardia ang isyu dahil kailangan niya ng positive publicity para muli siyang ma-reappoint bilang MTRCB Chair.

Nakumbinsi kaagad ang ilang pamilya sa Pampanga at Bulacan sa galing DTTV project ng ABS-CBN.

Ito’y matapos silang kabitan ng set-top box (STB) para makapanood ng DTTV test broadcasts ng Kapamilya network noong 2006 at unang bahagi ng 2007.
Unang tumatak sa mga test families ang ganda ng signal ng TV na kanilang napapanood.

"Akala mo, talaga DVD ‘yung pinapanood mo -- ‘yung original, ha, hindi pirated," sabi ng isang maybahay.

"Akala nga ng kapitbahay, may cable na kami. Ayaw nilang maniwalang antenna lang ‘yun. Ang dami ngang nakikinood sa amin -- ang linaw-linaw kasi, saka buhay na buhay ang kulay!"
Dagdag ng isa pang test viewer, "Dati-rati kasi, kapag umuulan, malabo agad ‘yung TV. Pati signal yata, inuulan. Lumalabas pa tuloy kami para ayusin ang antenna.

HINDI masyadong visible ngayon si Anne Curtis sa telebisyon man o sa pelikula.

Pagkatapos niyang mamayagpag sa Maging Sino Ka Man at sa kanyang pinakahuling movie with Ai Ai delas Alas, hindi na namin alam kung ano ang mga bagong development about her.

Maging ang televiewers ay nami-miss na rin si-ya. Tinatanong kami kung kelan daw ba ulit siya ma-papanood sa soap opera. Hindi naman kami maka-sagot dahil wala pa rin kaming alam kung kasama siya sa book 2 ng Ma-ging Sino Ka Man.

Anyway, ang huli na-ming balita kay Anne ay ‘yung tungkol sa diuma-no’y paghihiwalay nila ni Sam Milby, kapartner din niya sa Maging Sino Ka Man book 1.

After the said break- up, wala namang naging pahayag si Anne, kaya po-sible ngang broken hearted ang dalaga kaya ayaw niyang magsalita.

Hindi raw galit si Charlene Gonzales kay Kris Aquino dahil sa pang-aagaw diumano nito sa show niya sa Dos but some sources have it that Aga Muhlach’s wife was (she still is) purportedly shocked when her show was axed without giving her the chance to make a gracious exit.

Well, reyna ng network ang tabachingching na host ng malapit nang ma-tigok na Deal Or No Deal kaya sorry na lang si Charlene.

Alam mo naman sa network na ‘yan, whatever she says, goes.

Anyway, so kapal naman of Kris to do that.

Kung totoong hiningi niya ang slot ni Charlene on the pretext na hindi naman daw nagri-rate ang show nito, that is grossly inhuman.

Whatever, I have this hunch that this forthcoming show of hers is going to get clobbered up at the ratings by GMA’s Kay Susan Tayo.

Gelli de Belen happy for Ogie Alcasid and Regine Valesquez

Kinunan ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) ng pahayag ang TV host-actress na si Gelli de Belen tungkol sa relasyon nina Regine Velasquez at Ogie Alcasid. Matatandaang nagkaroon dati ng alitan sina Gelli at Regine dahil sa naging relasyon noon nina Regine at Ariel Rivera, na boyfriend pa lang noon ni Gelli. Pero since then nga ay naging asawa na ni Gelli si Ariel at nagkabati na rin sila ni Regine. Ano ba ang reaksiyon ni Gelli nang umamin na nga sina Regine at Ogie sa tunay nilang relasyon?

“E, di natuwa para sa kanila kasi masaya na sila. Mas masaya, para at least, they’re free to do what they want to do without having to be conscious all the time,” sagot ni Gelli sa presscon para sa grand finals ng “Baile (The Search for the Next Bomb)” na gaganapin sa morning show nila nina Janice de Belen at Carmina Villarroel na SIS sa Lunes, September 17.

Hindi raw kinondena ni Gelli kung matagal na inilihim nina Regine at Ogie ang relasyon nila.

“Alam ko yung feeling,” saad niya. “Alam mo naman nung kabataan namin, kami yung ‘friends lang kami!’ Napagdaanan ko rin yung ‘friends lang kami.’”

Masaya raw talaga si Gelli para sa kanila dahil bukod sa nagkaayos na nga sila ni Regine ay isa sa mga pinakamalapit niyang kaibigan si Ogie.

Ayon kay Gelli, “Ogie’s one of my closest friends, if not, he’s my best friend…na guy! Marami akong best friends na girls, pero sa guys, si Ogie lang, si Janno [Gibbs], at si Anjo [Yllana)]. Kaya ako, siyempre, I’m happy for him kasi he’s happy right now. That’s what’s important.

“Wala naman ako sa picture, hindi naman ako kasali sa relasyon nila, so wala akong opinion. My opinion does not count, pero talagang I’m happy for Ogie. Well, in their life, in their relationship, I have no bearing, except that I’m Ogie’s friend. Kaya kung sino ang mahal niya, mahal ko na din.”

Isa ba siya sa mga umaasa na finally ay ikasal na ang dalawa?

“Ako, ayoko munang pumunta sa ganung punto,” sambit ni Gelli. “Kasi I want them to enjoy each other as boyfriend-girlfriend. Dyusko, andami-dami pa nilang puwedeng gawin!”

Dagdag pa niya, “It’s so exciting, that’s the most exciting part. Pag nag-asawa na sila, mag-iiba yung level. So enjoy-in muna nila itong level na ito na boyfriend-girlfriend. Lalo na ngayon na out na sila, di ba? Enjoy-in nila, masaya ‘yan!”

Sila ba ni Ariel ay iba na rin ang level ngayong mag-asawa na sila?

“Of course!” mabilis niyang tugon. “May mga anak na kami. Dati kasi, you know, we would only think about ourselves. Now we have our children, and our children’s future to think about. Nadaanan naming lahat ng stages, and we both enjoyed it very much—every stage. And every stage, happiness.

GMA Artist Center presents 15 new discoveries to the press

Ipinakilala na sa ilang miyembro ng entertainment press ang mga bagong talents ng GMA Artist Center. Labing-limang mga bagong mukha ang nagkaroon ng presentation last Thursday, September 13 sa 17th Floor ng GMA Network Center.

Ayon sa Artist Center head na si Ms. Yda Henares at sa SVP for Entertainment TV ng GMA-7 na si Ms. Wilma Galvante, ito raw muna ang una’t huling pagkakataon na makikita ang kanilang mga bagong discoveries dahil dadaan daw muna sila sa ilang workshops at personality developments bago sila humarap ulit sa media.

“Gusto namin ay handa silang lahat bago sila ilabas ulit sa media,” sabi ni Ms. Wilma. “Marami kaming naka-schedule sa kanila na workshops in acting, singing, dancing, and overall development. Para naman hindi sila kahiya-hiyang iharap ulit sa press. Gusto namin sa susunod ay ma-impress na kayo sa kanila.”

Para naman kay Ms. Yda, paghahanda ito para sa mga bagong projects na darating pa sa GMA-7. Kesa nga naman daw tumanggap sila ng ibang talents from the rival network, bakit nga naman hindi na lang sila mag-develop ng mga bagong talents. Sa ganung paraan daw ay natutulungan pa nila ang improvement at confidence ng kabataan.

“Most of the talents we got come from good schools, good families, and may mga magaganda silang trabaho na ipinagpalit nila just to be with Artist Center. It’s going to be a long process to prepare them but sa nakikita namin, excited silang lahat and we feel strong about our news talents. Ready na silang humarap sa anumang challenges ng show business.”

Kabilang sa 15 new faces na ipinakilala ng GMA Artist Center sina:

Rustom: ‘Being gay is not a choice’

For Rustom Padilla, being gay is not a choice.

Still working for the acceptance of his family for the new Rustom, the former matinee idol bared Saturday that he did not choose to be gay.

“Gusto ko lang sabihin, ‘Ma, sa lahat din ng mga magulang na mayroong mga anak na kagaya ng pinagdaanan ko alam nyo po ang pagiging gay is not a choice, it’s really not a choice,” he said in an interview with GMA Network’s Startalk.

Rustom had said that his coming out has caused rift with the members of his family and he had no choice but to avoid them.

“Alam mo very normal kasi talagang pag dumadaan ka sa ganung klaseng pag-ano sa sarili mo. Kasi tinatanong mo yung self-worth mo e tapos kapag pumapasok sa isip mo na bakit parang may pasubali yung pagmamahal sa iyo di ba parang (sinasabi nila) sana hindi ka ganyan, parang may panghihinayang. Parang masakit kasi,” he said.

He added: “Wag nyo akong paghinayangan because I can still be the best that I want to be.”

Teary-eyed Rustom promised that he will prove to his family and friends that he is still worthy of their love.

“Inilagay ko sa isip ko na papatunayan ko na I will be the good son regardless kung ano ako basta I will be a good son, na hindi ako magiging kahihiyan ng pamilya at magiging responsible ako sa sarili ko at saka darating ang panahon na maipagmamalaki din ako bilang anak.”

Rustom said it will take time before his family can accept his sexuality. He added he doesn’t harbor any grudge against them.

His mother, Eva Cariño, admitted she is still hoping that Rustom will change.

“Hindi naman sa hindi ko tanggap pero umaasa ako na darating ang panahon na…….hindi ko na madugtungan pero mahal ko ang aking anak dahil si Rustom mabait,” she told Startalk.

She was not able to immediately answer the question if she now accepts the new Rustom.

“Syempre anak ko siya e, hindi pupuwedeng itapon kundi, sa ngayon, lalo ko pa siyang mahal na mahal,” she said, to which Rustom butted in, “alam mo minsan, kasi minsan masakit pakinggan yung hindi puwedeng itapon, kung pwede palang itapon (itinapon na).”

Mrs Cariño replied: Eto talaga normal lang sa atin na kung minsan magalit ka. E yun ang gusto niya e di bahala siya sa buhay niya, ganun pero sa bibig lang yun, deep inside hindi pwede.”

Rustom and his mother met for the first time on Startalk since December last year.

Their meeting was filled with emotion as they hugged each other for minutes before facing Startalk host Butch Francisco.

Mrs Carino said she and Rustom were uncomfortable in their first meeting nine months ago.

“Nung huling nagkita kami noong December, parang pareho kaming asiwa hanggang nung kakain na kami kasama na siya, after 30 minutes nawala na lang siyang bigla. After that wala na, hindi na kami nagkita ni Rustom. Tawag ako nang tawag sa bahay nila, kaaalis lang daw, tulog, so naisip ko na talagang nilalayo niya yung sarili niya sa amin dahil siguro sa kanya parang ilag din siya,” she said.

Rustom explained that he is just waiting for the right timing.

“Hinihintay ko lang yung tamang panahon na malagpasan ‘yung ang tingin sa akin si Rustom bakla yan di ba. Gusto ko malagpasan ‘yun (at) darating din ‘yung panahon na si Rustom OK ‘yan sa ginagawa niyang trabaho,” he said.

Angel quickly eclipsed by KC

LAST Thursday, “Marimar” registered a very high rating of 39 plus percent, its highest so far. The feedback on the show is so positive that management decided to make it run for 26 weeks. Usually, a series runs for only 13 weeks (one season) and it gets extended if it’s a toprater, like “Impostora” that will have its explosive climax this week, that ran for 16 weeks. In the case of a super hit show like “Marimar”, it’s now going to run for two seasons. Angel Locsin’s lost is really Marian Rivera’s gain.

As for Angel, someone observes that her transfer to ABS-CBN was quickly eclipsed by the appearance of a more ravishing celebrity in whom the public has long been interested in, KC Concepcion, introduced recently in “TV Patrol” as “ang bagong prinsesa ng Kapamilya network”.

“The public’s interest now is in KC,” some folks say. “Last Sunday, Angel was the guest in both ‘ASAP’ and ‘The Buzz’, but sadly, hindi siya nakatulong para mapag-rate ang shows na ito against its rivals sa GMA-7.”

KC has declared that if ever she’d do a movie, she’d like to be paired with Piolo Pascual, who’s now also being paired with Angel in a new teleserye. Honestly, though, we think KC should be paired with someone who’s in her age range, like Billy Crawford. But the problem is that Billy is a Kapuso while KC is a Kapamilya.

We ask GMA exec Wilma Galvante at the launching of their new stars what she thinks will happen to Angel? “Alam mo, sa totoo lang, wala na siya sa consciousness ko,” she says. “I am just happy that all our shows now from GMA Telebabad up to the Sunday shows, puro matataas ng rating, like ‘Showbiz Central’ na one month nang tinatalo ‘yung katapat nila. Even the Sunday primetime shows like ‘Kap’s Amazing Stories’, ‘Tok Tok Tok’, ‘Mel & Joey’, ‘All Star K’ and ‘Fulhaus’, puro mas matataas ang rating. Former Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Season 1 housemate Uma Khouny is very vocal about his opinion about PBB 2 housemate Wendy Valdez. Uma said in more than one interview that Wendy is the “pinaka-plastic” among the PBB Season 2 housemates.

ABS-CBN’s new showbiz talk show, Entertainment Live, was able to interview Wendy and got her reaction to Uma’s opinion about her..

“Hindi ko alam kung bakit niya [Uma] ‘yon sinabi kasi hindi naman kami nagkasama ng matagal at hindi naman kami talaga ganoon magkakilala. Noong nasa loob siya ng Bahay [PBB house], siya lagi dumidikit at nagkukuwento sa akin. Tapos para siyang tumuloy sa bahay ko at nagiging hospitable ako sa kanya, tapos nalaman ko na ganoon ang sinasabi niya. Parang sabi ko, ‘Sige, kung opinion mo ‘yan, bahala ka,’” said Wendy, referring to the time when Uma became a house guest in the second season of PBB.

Comparisons also suggest that she and Uma may have something in common since they were both branded as “contravidas” when they were still inside the PBB house. What is Wendy’s take on that?

“Para sa akin lang, I don’t think na kontrabida ako sa loob ng bahay. Kasi hindi ko naman plinano kung ano ang mga ginawa ko doon [PBB house]. Siguro kung ano ang difference, mas mahaba ang hair ko kaysa sa kanya [Uma]!” she replied.

Had they ever bumped into each other after the issue broke out?

“Nagkasalubong kami sa party ng Star Magic tapos bineso niya ako at sabi niya na ‘Kamusta na Ms. Margarita! How are you?’ Chika-chika. Tapos sabi ko ‘Okay…’ So, anong gusto mong sabihin ko sa ‘yo? So, ‘yon lang. Siya naman yung unang bumati sa akin, so parang hindi ko siya maintindihan. Para sa akin, huwag na lang patulan ‘yan.

“Happy ako na may work siya [Uma]. At least may work siya ngayon,” Wendy said a little bit sarcastically.

Then she continued, “And happy ako sa kung anong blessings na dumarating sa akin ngayon. So sana maging happy na lang din siya para sa akin.”

Her message to Uma: “Kung magkaka-work kami, baka ma-realize niya na… Baka ma-konsensiya siya sa ginagawa niya. Kasi wala naman akong iniisip o intensiyon na kahit ano sa kanya. We had fun when we were inside the house and nalulungot ako na ganoon ang nangyari… Sana huwag na lang maki-ride.”

Hairy Harry sa Love Spell

'Hairy Harry’ ang titulo ng bagong miniseries ng Love Spell na pinagbibidahan ni Matt Evans at magsisinula ngayong Linggo sa ABS-CBN.

Makapal ang curly hair ng Fil-Am na si Matt kaya inalam namin sa kanya kung totoong ‘hairy’ siya.

Sey ng bagets, hindi raw siya gaanong mabuhok pero medyo balbon siya. Namana raw niya siguro ‘yon sa kanyang amang Amerikano dahil nakita niya ito sa picture na ang mga buhok nito sa dibdib ay lumalabas na sa suot nitong shirt.

Hindi pa raw ‘carpeted’ ang 18-anyos na bagets at wala pa siyang chest hair pero medyo mabalahibo raw siya sa legs at makapal ang kanyang buhok sa kili-kili.

Hindi na namin inusisa kung makapal din ang kanyang buhok sa ibaba.

Bagay kay Matt ang kanyang makapal na kulot na buhok. Hindi raw siya naturally curly, wavy lang ang hair niya at pinakulot niya lang ito bago siya sumali sa PBB Teen Edition.

Ngayon ay regular niya itong pinakukulot every three months at palaging pinati-trim. Ordinaryong shampoo lang daw ang ginagamit niya sa buhok niya pero naglalagay siya ng hair mousse at nagpapa-hot oil treatment para hindi ito masyadong mag-dry.

Pabor daw sa kanya ang kulot na buhok dahil hindi na siya nag-aayos ng hair pagkaligo niya, ‘wash and wear’ lang ang drama niya.

“IT’s God’s will!” said Komiks king Carlo J. Caparas and mega producer Donna Villa, referring to the “second coming” of komiks in the Philippines.

“Miracles still happen! And it is really happening in the komiks world,” exclaimed Donna comparing the strong demand for the comics to the huge success of Harry Potter’s J. K. Rowling’s onslaught in the bookstores.

“It’s really a kind of blessing for the industry, particularly for the komiks writers and illustrators, who previously lost their means of livelihood after many of the former komiks investors took on new business ventures,” said Donna.

But with the revival of komiks, people are very appreciative of the efforts put in by Carlo J and Donna Villa. From almost every nook and cranny of Metro Manila, and the colleges in the University Belt to the old Spanish style streets in the Ilocos Region, to the prisoners’ paradise in penitentiaries in various parts of the country, and to the war-torn mountains in Sulu, the komiks mania is spreading like wildfire throughout the country.

People’s Journal gathered that Sterling Publications who were overwhelmed by the response to the comics are starting to print daily to cope up with the reorders from the provinces.

“Simot ang stocks namin kahit na nagpasobra pa kami,” said Martin Cadlum of Sterling, who expressed amazement at the warm reception from comics buffs and enthusiasts after delivering truckloads of komiks at Port area in Manila en route to the provinces.

HINDI kaya mabantilawan si Angel Locsin sa tagal ng pagpapalabas ng kanyang first major teleserye sa ABS-CBN?

Aba’y mahigit dalawang buwan na siyang pinag-uusapan sa apat na sulok ng showbiz, pero, wala pang concrete proof na tatangkilikin nga siya ng madlang pipol.

Pawang mga guest stints sa talk shows ang kanyang ginagawa. Kung napapanood man siya sa ASAP, nilalamon siya ng mga mainstays nito dahil magagaling silang mag-host, sumayaw at mag-adlib.

Hindi man siya pinababayaan ng mga co-host niya. Sinasalo siya lagi sa mga one-liners niya. Inili-lift din siya paitaas ng mga dancers. Iyon na nga lang, wala pa rin siyang napa-patunayan.

Sana maging fruitful ang kanyang guest stint sa Sharon this Sunday. Sana, may mapag-usapang iba tungkol sa kanya, maliban sa pag-o-over da bakod niya mula sa GMA tungo sa pangunahing network ng bansa.

Kalahati lang ng presscon hall sa 14th floor ang inimbita. Pero, nakita naman kung gaano kalalaki ang write-ups at fotos na lumabas the very next day. Hamak na mas pinag-usapan si KC. At na-occupy niya lahat ng space, pati TV exposure.

Samantalang, buong presscon hall ay napuno noon kay Angel ng inimbitang movie press, TV at radio people. Sad to say, walang kawawaan, ang mga pahayag ni Angel. Kung kaya maiikli ang lumabas na write-ups niya.

Paglabas pa lamang ni KC para umupo sa presidential table, napa buntong hininga na ang lahat. Buti na lang at hindi tumulo ang mga laway ng lahat ng humahanga sa kanya.

Puwede ngang sabihing, napaka-unfair naman ni God! Bakit ibinigay na niya lahat ng kaganda-han sa mundo sa anak ni me-ga.

At nang magsalita, buong taimtim na nakikinig sa kanya ang lahat.

Wala yatang pahayag si KC na hindi pang-headline. May substance, relevance, kahalagahan ang maririnig sa bawat pagbukas ng kanyang bibig.

Ipinagbawal man ang pag-ungkat sa kanyang personal na buhay. May sapat naman siyang sagot para ‘’kiligin’’ ang mga nakikinig sa kanya.

Kailangan pa nga bang sagutin nang diretso kung sila na nga ni Direk Lino Cayetano? Sinasabi naman niyang masaya ang kanyang puso ngayon. Hina-hum naman niya at bahagyang inawit ang I’ve Fallen for You na siyang laman ng puso niya ngayon.

Puwede rin niyang awitin ito para kay direk at sabihing “I Have Fallen for You, too.’’

Basta, tiyak na kakabugin ni KC ang mundo ng showbiz kapag ipinalabas sa Sept. 23 ang TV special niyang From Paris to ‘Pinas.

Joseph Estrada and the “pare” in him. In both politics and showbiz, his image as an action star played crucial.

Guilty or not, we have enjoyed everything about one of the country’s most iconic people—Joseph Estrada. His “action star” tag has truly made him as one of the most-loved figures of the Filipino masses.

Erap, or “pare” spelled backwards, started out as an extra during the 1950s against his family’s wishes. He was forced to drop his real surname Ejercito, and changed it to Estrada, because of his father’s skeptical attitude towards acting as a profession.

Eleven years after joining showbiz, the bit player rose to fame by playing “Asiong Salonga,” a modern day Robin Hood who was born in Tondo, and fought the abusive rich and powerful for the sake of the poor.

His stint as an actor playing heroes to the oppressed classes won him the admiration of the people, particularly the masa. Not only that, his acting skills won him numerous awards. And eventually, his immense popularity worked to his advantage when he made a crossover from showbiz to politics.

He’s a successful action star. He’s a public servant well-loved by the masa. And he’s also a comedian, no pun here. The guy has truly made upbeat contributions to the society as an entertainer. So, for today, let’s just set aside our political beliefs and enjoy PEP’s top list of everything Erap.

THE FILMS. Erap’s portrayal of Asiong Salonga (1961) and Geron Busabos (1964) paved the way to his ultimate stardom and his Bida ng Masa image. Since then, almost all of his films provided nearly identical plots—an ordinary man who rises up and becomes a hero whose mission is to defend those who are inaapi and pinapahirapan.

With over 100 films under his belt, it’s small wonder that the accomplished actor and producer became the first recipient of FAMAS Hall of Famer as an actor in 1981, and as a producer in 1983. He is the only person to achieve this double feat, so far. His last movie, “Sa Kuko ng Aguila” (1989), was produced to gain public support for his stand in the RP-US Military Bases Agreement. He was already a senator when he released his comeback film.

THE ERAP TRADEMARK. Who could have missed the wristband, the slouch, the voice, especially the hair?

Erap, who is virtually an icon, turned the fantasy of cinema into reality. Even when he served as the President of the Philippines, he lived up to his “action star” look. He continued projecting an image that he’s siga, ready to pounce on any possible villain. His wristband, by the way, has dual-purpose: one, to stick to his “action star” look; two, to hide a bad scar, which he supposedly got from a fight when he was younger.

THE QUOTES. Two of the most memorable quotes from the former president were etched in everyone’s minds as the “quotes that made and broke him.”

“Ang kaibigan, walang iwanan.” He addressed this quote to his late kumpadre, Fernando Poe, Jr., when the latter ran for president. Later on, this line was used against him. Reports said that Erap was too literal when he made such statement, “no wonder, he secured government posts for his friends and allies during his term.”

“Huwag ninyo akong subukan!” He was full of conviction when he said this line, which was part of his inaugural speech. It was an assurance that his term would have no room for palakasan and katiwalian. He was then perceived as a man of valor and integrity. Skeptics gave him the benefit of the doubt. But now, given the verdict of Sandiganbayan, they have a conclusion: Erap delivered some movie lines.

“Walang kumpa-kumpare. Walang kai-kaibigan.” Again, this quote was part of his inaugural speech, and it received loud cheers from the audience. A few years later, it was his friends’ turn to say this line.

Bobby Tañada, his former Senate buddy (they both advocated the removal of US military bases here in the country), was lead prosecutor for the plunder charges in the impeachment case against Estrada. When asked if his friendship with the former president would affect his way of handling the case, he was quoted as saying, “Walang kumpa-kumpare at kai-kaibigan kung paglilingkod sa bayan ang pinag-uusapan (there are no buddies and friends when service to the people is at stake).”

THE JOKES. Jokes about the former president spread like wildfire, mainly because of his deliberate bad English and knack for saying the funniest of things. This comical (and sometimes witty) side of Erap gave birth to ERAP jokes—which pervaded emails, text messages, and newspaper columns. He also became one of the favorite subjects of humorists and comic strip authors. Below are some personal favorites:

The More Intelligent Candidate

This incident supposedly happened before the “ERAP PRESIDENCY.”

Miriam Santiago, has challenged the “least” intelligent presidentiable to a televised debate. To make things interesting, Miriam is said to have told Erap that for every question he won’t be able to answer, Erap has to pay Miriam five pesos. But if it’s Miriam who fails to answer Erap’s question, the former has to give Erap five thousand pesos.

Miriam asks the first question: “What’s the distance from the earth to the moon?

“Erap doesn’t say a word, reaches for his wallet, pulls out a five-peso bill and hands it to Miriam.

Now, it’s his turn. He asks Miriam: “What goes up a hill with three legs?”

After over an hour, she admits defeat and hands Erap five 1,000-peso bills.

Erap says nothing, politely accepts the P5,000, and turns away to go home.

Miriam is a poor sport and demands from Erap, “Well, so what is the answer?”

Without a word, Erap pulls out his wallet and gives Miriam another five pesos…

These jokes became every Pinoy’s favorite conversation piece. But instead of halting it, the former president just laughed things off. In the end, they even helped increase Erap’s popularity meter.

AFTER THE ERAPTION. The “guilty” verdict smashed the hopes of his family, allies, and supporters. Although Erap’s lawyers already filed a motion for reconsideration, the future of the former president is still gloomy.

The only thing that’s certain, a big number of his kaibigan and kumpare will never forsake him. And that Eraption jokes will not have its sudden death…I can’t wait to read the compilation.

Ang party ay naganap sa T.G.I.Friday’s sa Bonifacio High Street, The Fort nung Martes, ika-11 ng Setyembre. Hindi dumating, gaya ng inaasahan, ang ama ni Venice na si Yilmaz Bektas sa party ng kanyang anak. Pero hindi naman daw nakalimot si Yilmaz na batiin ang kanyang anak.

“Well, nagusap sila kahapon,” lahad ni Ruffa. “Kasi two weeks na kaming hindi nag-uusap ni Yilmaz, but yesterday, he sent me a text message. Ang sabi niya, ‘I would like to speak to the kids. Where can I reach them?’

Ayon kay Ruffa, may special mobile phones ang mga bata. “E, naka-off so binigay ko yung number sa bahay. Ayun, nag-usap sila, and then may mga gift daw siya na ipapadala from Turkey,” kuwento ng host ng The Buzz.

Binanggit ni Ruffa ang pangungulila ng mga anak sa ama, “They miss him. They keep saying, ‘Baba is coming? Baba is coming?’ So yun, sinasabi ko pa rin na si Baba, kasama ni Kokey sa moon. Hindi ko alam kung kelan babalik si Baba.”

Paano naman siya? Hindi ba siya nalulungkot na nahiwalay ulit ang mga anak niya sa kanilang ama?

“Well, ah, my state of mind, I’m very happy. I think I have everything to be thankful for. You know, hindi man masaya ang aking lovelife, malungkot man ang aking mga gabi…naku! “Masigla naman ang aking career ‘di ba? So patuloy na pumapasok yung magagandang trabaho. So, I have to be thankful, kasi syempre, I’m on my own now with my two little girls. Ayoko namang humingi din ng tulong kay Yilmaz. If he wants to send, he can send,” sabi ng dating Miss World Second Princess.

Nilinaw niya na pwede naman daw siyang humingi ng suporta mula kay Yilmaz.

“Yeah, pero kasi naman…of course, I can always ask help. Pero I don’t need to, e. Kasi kung gusto naman niya, it’s up to him ‘di ba? So, I don’t want to force somebody who doesn’t want to.”

Magkagalit ba sila ngayon ni Yilmaz kaya two weeks na silang ‘di nag-uusap?

Paliwanag ni Ruffa, “Actually, we just decided that it is better to give each other a space for a while, kasi syempre, ‘pag tawagan nang tawagan ‘tapos nagkukulitan, it’s better na, you know…We move on na. We give each other space para we have time to heal.”

Sa hiwalay na panayam ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) kay Yilmaz Bektas bago ito umalis, inamin Turkish businessman na “50 times a day” siya kung tumawag sa asawa.

Kumusta na yung rose na binigay sa kanya ni Yilmaz?

“Nand’yan pa rin,” sabay tawa ni Ruffa. “E, kasi naman si Mommy masyado niya ako’ng tinense kaya nakalimutan ko pa yung isa niyang iniwan. Kasi he gave me also a necklace na knife. Knife siya, and then, may nakalagay na faith. So, every time I remember him daw, I think of that. So, I don’t know kung ano ang symbolic reason noon…”

Sa sinabi ng ina na may iniwan si Yilmaz sa kanya, may mga haka-hakang nag-away silang mag-asawa bago ito umalis. Totoo nga ba sinaktan siya ni Yilmaz?

“Well, uh, ayoko ng pag-usapan yung ganyan, kung nasaktan ako o hindi. I think kasi it’s never gonna have an ending. Syempre si Yilmaz tahimik lang, so, as much as possible I don’t want to discuss anymore what happens behind close doors. “
Hindi naman daw kaya buntis ngayon si Ruffa at ito ang sinasabing iniwan sa kanya ni Yilmaz?

Sagot ni Ruffa, “Hindi ako pregnant ‘no. I know yun ang iniisip ng iba, na ang iniwan na remembrance sa akin ay anak. Wala siyang iniwan diyan sa loob ng tiyan ko. Ayoko muna ‘no? Ang hirap mag-alaga. Tama na si Lorin at si Venice. Uy, kung kelan naman ako pumayat, in fairness ‘no?”

Biro pa ni Ruffa, “Pwede ba’ng pumayat muna ako ng one year bago ako…teka muna, sino ang tatay?” biro pa niya. “Sige after one year, ganun, tawagan ko siya, ‘Hello? Gusto ko’ng magka-baby ulit.’ Tama na sa akin si Lorin at si Venice for now.”

Pero marami pa rin ang posibleng mangyari sa relasyon nila ni Yilmaz, ‘di ba?

“Hindi…ang sabi ko naman, whatever happens to the future I leave everything to God. Malay mo he has a perfect plan for me. So, kung ano ang gusto ni Lord na mangyari, I’m sure He’ll find a way to bring us together. Pero kung ayaw naman niya, baka we moved on with our separate ways.”

Nitong nakaraang Gawad Urian awards night na ginanap sa Henry Lee Irwin Theater sa Ateneo de Manila University kagabi, September 12, kung saan nanalo bilang best actor si Rustom for ZsaZsa Zaturnnah Ze Moveeh (ka-tie niya si Mark Gil for Rotonda), doon lang daw ulit sila nagkaharap ni Binoe at masaya itong yumakap sa kanya.

“Si Binoe ang nag-announce ng name ko kasi siya ang winner last year, ‘di ba? Hindi ko ini-expect na manalo kasi alam kong mas maraming magagaling sa akin at mas deserving to win. I was there because I wanted to support and thank the Manunuri para sa pag-nominate nila sa akin sa isang comedy movie.

“Doon lang kami ulit nagkita ni Binoe after a long time. I admit na medyo nailang pa ako pero because of what happened. Sa naganap na kaarawan ng bunsong anak ni Ruffa Gutierrez noong ika-11 ng Setyembre sa T.G.I.Friday’s sa The Fort, inalam ng press kung ano ang kahilingan niya para kay Venice.

“Sana maging mabuting bata siya. I hope she’ll always be happy and healthy at makatapos siya ng pag-aaral sa isang university hanggang masters na hindi ko nagawa,” ang seryosong sabi ni Ruffa.

Siyempre, inusisa rin si Ruffa tungkol sa regalo ni Yilmaz kay Venice.

“Marami raw siyang ipapadala. Magpapadala raw siya ng piano. May mga surprise gifts daw siya. So, I think ang importante naman na gift na maibibigay ni Yilmaz ay yung kanyang love at kanyang presence as a father. Kahit na malayo kami sa isa’t isa, sana huwag niyang kakalimutan that he has two little girls who loves him. But I know he loves them also.”

Hero Angeles will be seen in two GMA-7 shows Hero Angeles faced the cameras once again when he taped episodes for two GMA-7 shows: Maynila and the game show Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon, Pasok. The Star Circle Quest (SCQ) alumnus relates his experience of working with Kapuso stars who are also products of reality shows like him.

“Ka-partner ko po sa Maynila sina LJ Reyes and Jackie Rice. It’s a light story about college love. Ako yung boyfriend ni LJ sa story and may love triangle kami ni Jackie. I play Mike while LJ plays Carla. Jackie portrays the role of Joan in the story,” narrates Hero.

“Nangangapa ako noong una. Medyo naninibago kasi first time ko uli humawak ng script sa GMA-7. Okay naman yung staff ng Maynila. Accommodating sila and friendly. Nag-shoot kami sa Parks and Wildlife sa Quezon Avenue.

“Nag-usap kami ni LJ tungkol sa mga love teams. Napagkwentuhan namin yung tungkol sa kanila ni Mike Tan.”

It will be remembered that Hero had a misunderstanding with his love team partner Sandara Park in his former mother station, ABS-CBN. On the other hand, LJ used to have a relationship with Mike Tan, her former love team partner.

Aside from taping an episode for the GMA-7 drama anthology show Maynila, the grand winner of SCQ will also be seen in the upcoming episode of Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon, Pasok. In the game show hosted by Paolo Bediones, Hero was partnered with traffic enforcers in a series of physical challenges in order to win the grand prize.

TVRatings (Sept. 10–13): Marimar hits 39.3 percent; surpasses pilot rating

Just like any race dealing with statistics, GMA-7’s Marimar is showing frequent highs and some moderate lows. But like any competent warrior engaged in a tough competition, any setback means sufficient reason to regain ground.

And what a way to bounce back.

A day after tying its pilot episode rating, the tandem of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera in Marimar showed sufficient grit as it registered a whopping 39.3 percent showing last September 13, Thursday. The impressive number came a day after Marimar matched its debut rating of 38.3 percent.

The said performance was more than enough to keep close competitor Impostora at bay, at least for the week. Impostora for its part managed to keep in step last Tuesday, September 11, as it gathered a 33.1 percent rating against Marimar’s 34.9 percent clip.

Daytime programming, meanwhile ,showed a lot more movement as GMA-7’s Meteor Garden and ABS-CBN’s Game KNB? took turns in breaking Eat Bulaga’s hold of the top spot.

Meteor Garden took September 10, Monday, with a 21.5 percent rating while Game KNB? wrestled the lead last September 12, Wednesday, by its 22.4 percent performance.

The TV coverage of the announcement of former President Erap Estrada’s guilty verdict also figured prominently at the ratings last September 12, Wednesday. GMA-7’s coverage posted 21.7 percent rating compared to ABS-CBN’s 15.5 percent. Both coverages landed on the Top 10 daytime programs that day.

Pops Fernandez, dedma sa text ni Martin Nievera

Mukhang buhay pa ang alitan sa gitna nina Martin Nievera at Pops Fernandez. Nagsalita na naman si Martin sa presscon ng bagong album niya.

Nagulat si Martin sa balitang maggi-guest siya sa concert ni Pops sa December 7, dahil wala raw siyang alam tungkol diyan at hindi pa siya nasabihan.

"I know it’s all over the papers, it must be great publicity, I’m sure, but I was never asked," sabi ni Martin.

"I’m wondering why because I think I’m the last person on the list, I mean now, after what happened we’ve not spoken… she’s not replying to my messages and she has reason.

"I’m not saying that it’s wrong, that it’s not, pero dahil du’n nasa-shock ako sa mga tsismis na maggi-guest ako sa concert niya," patuloy ni Martin, na nagsabing malamang tatanggapin niya sakaling aalukin siyang mag-guest, kung talagang kailangan siya sa concert ni Pops.

Patuloy raw niyang tini-text si Pops, pero hindi raw ito sumasagot kaya ang pagkakaintindi niya ay itigil na ang pagti-text niya.

"I know what she wants, she wants to stop texting, she wants to go back to the old fashion where you will talk face to face and I’m scared to death.

"I’m a lot braver with the texting and I can say a lot more, there’s no screaming or shouting. I don’t know, I just think I’m just a coward," pahayag ni Martin.

Sa pagkakaalam pa ni Martin, upset pa rin daw si Pops. Sa matagal na pamamalagi ni Pops sa Amerika nu’ng nagkaroon ito ng series of shows, inaasam ni Martin na medyo lumamig na ang ulo ni Pops.

Dagdag pang kuwento ni Martin, inimbita niya minsan si Jomari na mag-dinner, pero hindi siya sinagot.

"When I picked up the kids when I’m here for dinner, I see his car in the house. So I texted him, ‘Hey dude, you wanna come and join us, you’re more than welcome, it’s just the boys, let’s have pizza or whatever,’ but he didn’t text back," kuwento ni Martin.

"I have nothing against the guy. I think, he doesn’t like me at the moment, because the love of his life in the moment which is the love of my life many moments ago is probably upset of me so, if she’s upset, siyempre he’s gonna be upset also, so it’s unfair to talk to him or to talk to Pops while they’re upset, but they’re so very welcome," patuloy ni Martin.

Kim Chiu at Gerald Anderson, excited na sa I’ve Fallen For You

I’M sure, kabado ngayon sina Kim Chiu at Gerald Anderson dahil sa nalalapit na showing ng kanilang launching movie na pinamagatang I’ve Fallen For You under Star Cinema.

This is also the directorial debut sa big screen ng favorite director namin and friend na si Lino Cayetano. We’ve known Direk Lino since Starstruck days kung saan siya ang unang naging direktor.

In fairness, bugbog ang trailer ng pelikula sa Channel 2. Isa kasi ito sa very effective ways para makapag-create ng awareness among moviegoers.

Marami kaming nariri-nig na feedback about the movie and also about Kim and Gerald. It’s somehow alarming, pero sa palagay naman namin ay maaayos din ang lahat. Hindi na lang namin isusulat ang tungkol dito kasi kawawa naman ang pelikula at ang dalawang bidang ilu-launch.

Anyway, kailangan pang mag-exert ng effort ng dalawang bida and I guess, pati Star Cinema and Star Magic para mas maging maingay ang I’ve Fallen For You. Critical stage kasi ito for the two youngstar dahil this could make or break them.

Although naging bida na rin sila sa First Day High, pero hindi naman nila ‘yon solo movie. Marami silang kasama ro’n. Eh, dito sa I’ve Fallen, sila lang talaga ang ibinibenta.

Paano nga kaya mas madaragdagan ang kilig factor sa movie ng dalawa?

Well, I guess, dapat na silang umamin about their true relationship, hindi ‘yung panay ang sabi nila na they are still good friends kahit ang nakikita ng mga taong nakapaligid sa kanila, eh, magdyowa na sila.

Angel Locsin at Robin Padilla sali sa SEA Games sa Muay Thai

Ngayong araw, Sabado ang balik ng Pilipinas nina Angel Locsin at ng manager niyang si Becky Aguila mula sa Bangkok, Thailand kung saan sila nag-shoot ng shampoo commercial kasama si Richard Gutierrez.

Nasa Bangkok daw si tita Becky nang lumabas ang isyung ikinomit daw niya sa isang matandang pulitikong taga-Tarlac ang isa pa niyang alagang si Valerie Concepcion dahil nga matindi ang pangangailangan nito dahil siya ang breadwinner ng pamilya.

“I am a manager with principle and dignity. I will never encourage my artists to go into such arrangement for money.

“Val is a single mom and she’s supporting her daughter and family with whatever income she gets from her showbiz work.

“So, to those who keeps on writing about this, better stop or I’ll sue,” babala ng manager.

Wowowee wows Vegas

The morning after the “live” staging of Wowowee at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas last Sept. 8, the feast day of Virgin Mary, Willie Revillame lost his voice but it was well worth it.

“I needed the break,” said Willie the other day, a few hours after he arrived on a PAL flight from L.A.

A largely Filipino crowd, numbering 7,800, filled up 90 percent of the Orleans Arena which has a capacity of 9,000. Two blocks (good for 1,200 patrons) on both sides were sealed off because the view from there was blocked by posts.

Acting as Willie’s co-hosts were Bea Alonzo (who sang Quando, Quando, Quando with him) and Pokwang (who cried when, after Pokwang’s dance-challenge with Luningning, Willie related to the audience Pokwang’s sad life story), assisted by Bentong. Guests were Piolo Pascual (who sang Kailangan Kita), Sam Milby (who sang Maging Sino Ka Man) and Lito Camo, composer of Munting Hiling which Willie sang while Wowowee highlights were flashed on the monitor onstage, moving the audience to tears. When he sang Kung Para Sa’yo (composed by Vehnee Saturno), Willie invited Filipino oldtimers in the US on stage, giving the otherwise riotous show a touch of nostalgia.

It’s the third Wowowee in the US staging this year, following those in Reno, Nevada and Chicago.

The Las Vegas show was a success, according to the producers, Tony Lim, Sid Protacio and Romy Agbolos of Ralp Productions and Dr. Jun Berberabe and his brother Joel, John Pamintuan, John Bautista and Cookie Reyes of Jade Productions.

Willie was gone from Wowowee for more than a week. He’ll be back “live” starting today.

No, he has nothing more to “explain.”

Stars at the 30th Urian awards

Like in the 2005 Gawad Urian, it rained and rained hard last Thursday before the members of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino — now on its 30th year — could put up their show mounted for them by the very professional team of Tony Tuviera’s APT Entertainment.

While the rain outside stopped before the program began, there was a continuous downpour of talent inside Ateneo de Manila’s Henry Lee Irwin Theater, where the Urian show was held — from the nominees and winners, to the performers and hosts Janno Gibbs and Regine Velasquez.

Janno, in fact, shared his singing talent immediately when he opened the show with a rousing number along with Randy Santiago and the Pop Star Kids.

After the introduction of the Manunuri members — with vice chair Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso welcoming the guests — it was on with the awards proper. The first award to be given was for Best Cinematography that went to Roberto Yniguez of Kubrador. Then on best sound won by Ronald de Asis for Tuad ng Dati and then Best Music, a second-in-a-row victory for Vicente de Jesus (Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah), who also won last year for La Visa Loca.

The Manunuri show then went on to give recognition to the winners of Best Editing that went to John Torres of Todo, Todo Teros (he is also the director of the film) and Best Production Design won by Leo Abaya of Kubrador.

In between were comedy sketches by the forever hit act of Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola and their most hilarious skit was their parody of Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo where they spoofed Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos.

Another well-applauded number was Billy Crawford’s song and dance (he truly is world class) and no one probably remembers that this international performer was once upon a time cited for Best Supporting Actor by the Manunuri for his performance as Vilma Santos’ son in Pahiram ng Isang Umaga. I reminded him that during rehearsals the night before and he doesn’t remember and we both figured that maybe he was too young (at 6) that time to have understood the value and importance of that citation.

Then it was back to the awards proper and Jhek Cogama’s Putot was awarded Best Short Film. Connie Macatuno won Best Screenplay for Rome and Juliet, while Jeffrey Jeturian — “finally, after seven films (his won words)” – brought home the best director trophy for Kubrador.

Excitement among movie fans inside the theater built up even more when the program shifted to the acting categories. Winner of the Best Supporting Actor award was Rafael Rosell (Rome and Juliet) who thanked writer-director Connie Macatuno “for bringing out the talent in me.”

Best Supporting Actress was Meryll Soriano (Rotonda), who was a non-show. She was already all made-up and coiffed, but later realized that after giving birth she had grown bigger and couldn’t fit into her regular dress. That was a lame excuse, but maybe that was all part of her post-natal blues. Her uncle, Mel Martinez, accepted on her behalf.

The show proceeded to pay tribute to Marichu “Manay Ichu” Maceda, this year’s recipient of the Natatanging Gawad Urian. Drama King Christopher de Leon (no less!) serenaded Manay Ichu with her favorite songs. Christopher made a lot of films with Manay Ichu as producer — all box-office hits (Paraisong Parisukat, Pakawalan Mo Ako, etc.) The citations were read by Drama Queen and grand-slam winner Lorna Tolentino (who did Stepsisters for Manay Ichu) and this writer.

The regular awards continued after that emotion-filed tribute for Manay Ichu and more excitement flowed with the victory of Kubrador as Best Picture. Statuesque lawyer-producer Joji Alonzo accepted the award.

Well-applauded was the entrance of last year’s best actor Robin Padilla in a suede coat and dark glasses. It was an emotional moment when he turned the award over to his own brother Rustom Padilla (Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah) who tied with Mark Gil (Rotonda) for Best Actor. Both winners were filled with emotions and Mark pointed out the fact that when he first won an Urian (Best Supporting Actor for Palipat-lipat, Papalit-palit), son Sid Lucero was just born and now the boy is his co-nominee (for Donsol).

Best actress was Gina Pareño (Kubrador) and before she could even ascend the stage to accept her trophy, co-nominee Cherry Pie Picache (Kaleldo) and Mylene Dizon (Rome and Juliet) both stood up to congratulate her. That was such a touching gesture. Cherry Pie and Mylene are both winners for that.

Before the program could end, the traditional parade of winners was held with Regine Velasquez and Kuh Ledesma singing to the victors.

A lot of other nominees gamely showed up and among them were Brillante Mendoza (who had two films in the running), Allan Paule, Agot Isidro, Tessie Tomas, Andrea del Rosario, Domingo Landicho and Soliman Cruz.

Among the other presenters were Ruffa Gutierrez (who wowed everyone when she swept across the stage), Rihan Ramos, Ryan Agoncillo, Yasmien Kurdi, Pauleen Luna, Marky Cielo, JC de Vera, Kim Chiu (I met her during rehearsals and she is so sweet), Gerald Anderson, Ehra Madrigal, Ricky Davao, Jennylyn Mercado, Wendell Ramos, Jiro Manio and last year’s Urian best actress Jaclyn Jose.

Christian Bautista, nag-sorry kay Lea Salonga

Sa Cuneta Astrodome ang Christian Inspired at sa Araneta Coliseum ang It’s Time ng una.

Sa Big Dome sana ang concert ng huli, pero naunahan siyang magpa-book.

Birthday ni Christian sa October 19 at wish nitong mapuno niya ang venue. Makatutulong ang guests niyang sina Sam Milby at Toni Gonzaga para panoorin ang concert. May special participation din sina Gary Valenciano, Sam Concepcion, Tricia Amper-Jimenez, Joni Villanueva at Kuh Ledesma.

Maku-curious din ang tao sa Watch Out, ang 9x24 feet multi-display video screen that will surround the stage. Ginagamit ito ni Celine Dion sa show niya sa Las Vegas. Panlaban din ng singer ang repertoire at ang hit songs.

Nahihiya si Christian kay Lea Salonga dahil ginamit na palang title sa concert nito ang Inspired at may album din ito na ganu’n ang title.

“Hindi namin alam ang tungkol doon, na-overlook namin. I’d like to apologize if we caused any problem. I’m a fan of Ms. Lea, nahihiya ako sa kanya,” pagso-sorry ni Christian.

May commitment si Rachelle Ann Go, kaya hindi siya guest, pero hahabol para manood.

Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez are not yet on speaking terms

Concert King Martin Nievera admitted that he hasn’t spoken with his estranged wife Pops Fernandez ever since their highly-publicized spat last July.

At the launching of his new 2-disc record titled Milestones under EMI Philippines,yesterday, September 12, at the Discovery Suites in Ortigas, Martin told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that he sent several text messages to Pops but never received a reply.

“But I understand. I know Pops, and I know that she wants it the traditional way, which is a face-to-face, personal communication rather than relay things through text,” said Martin over a cup of tea.

Despite his reputation as a “talker,” Martin confessed that he’s not really good when it comes to discussing personal matters, especially when he knows that the other party is still feeling upset.

“I have nothing against Pops and I do understand if she’s feeling that way. Perhaps it is much better to give her space,” added Martin.

The rift between the two happened July of this year when Pops got upset by Martin’s girlfriend, Katrina Ojeda, for allegedly calling her sons “monkeys.” Though the reported incident happened a long time ago, Pops said she learned about it only recently at the time from common friends.

Martin previously defended Katrina about the remark by saying that it was just a harmless expression or a metaphor to describe two boys who were “jumping up and down the couch like monkeys.”

The amiable balladeer insisted that everything was taken purely out of context and that the issue was blown out of proportion.

“I don’t want to talk about it too much because talking about it means reviving the entire thing. It is very trivial and it was so sad that it became an issue. But I’m really sorry if Pops got offended by it. I just hope that things would soon get better between us.”

KATRINA’S REACTION. Martin said that Katrina, being a private person, felt shocked when the issue suddenly dragged her name into the spotlight.

“She hated it,” Martin replied instantly when asked on how Katrina took the entire matter.

“She’s always seen me go through a lot of gossips and intrigues but she’s never been part of it. Now being that the subject matter of this most recent intrigue, which is so trivial and for me is so minor, I try to pass about this by just telling, ‘You know sweetheart, she’s upset about something else. I don’t know what it is…,” he added while signing some autographs.

Regarding Katrina’s interview with The Buzz, Martin said: “No, The Buzz ambush happened during the birthday party of my son, which I allowed, but I told them straight, ‘This is just a birthday party of my son [Santino]’ and they asked us on live television and she apologized on TV but it wasn’t good enough.”

The controversy, according to Martin, was an eye-opener for Katrina as far as show business works. Needless to say, their vacation here in the country became one forgettable event.

“She now knows what I go through on a daily basis. Our summer vacation was ruined. It was the worst ’cause now we’re asking each other questions ‘What happened?’ and she [Katrina] was like ‘Why do you keep protecting her? Why do you keep on professing love about her?’ So now it’s all coming out. So, nag-aaway talaga kami because of these intrigues.”

But everything’s perfectly fine now, according to Martin. And the only reason Katrina opted to stay in the U.S. instead of accompanying him here to promote his record was simply because of work-related issues.

“She’s a teacher in the States so right now she can’t come with me. I miss them [Katrina and Santino]but I have to work and they understand,” smiled Martin.

Dawn Zulueta is back in Manila; returns to acting

More than a year na nang huling napanood ang aktres na si Dawn Zulueta sa telebisyon. Ngayong Oktubre ay muli siyang nagbabalik bilang Kapamilya star sa nalalapit na pagsisimula ng fantaserye na Lastikman ng ABS-CBN.

“I’m glad to be part of Lastikman. Taga-lupa ako na mother ni Vhong Navarro, who’s Lastikman dito. Nakidnap ako na dinala sa planetang Harraio. Doon, I fell in love sa taga-Harraio na si Tonton Gutierrez [Irroian]. Nagkaanak kami at ‘yon si Vhong,” kuwento ni Dawn sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa presscon ng Lastikman kahapon, September 12, sa ABS-CBN compound.

First time daw niyang makakasama sa iisang show si Vhong, but unfortunately, wala pang chance na nag-meet sila ng komedyante. Wala pa rin daw silang eksena na magkasama, although ongoing pa ang taping ng Lastikman.

“Bale ang natapos ko lang na taping yung sa pilot. Pero babalik pa ako, I think towards the end,” sabi ni Dawn.

BACK IN MANILA. Ang pagtanggap ni Dawn para sa mahalagang role niya sa Lastikman ay hudyat na rin ng page-settle niya ulit sa Manila.

“Yes, I’m back here in Manila!” bulalas niya. “We’re in the process of moving to our new place here and very soon settled na kami.

“Balik nga rito but we’re not giving up our home in Davao. As a matter of fact, we still fly home at least once a month. My husband is there almost every weekend kasi siyempre, tuluy-tuloy din naman ang mga project namin sa mga constituent niya doon sa Davao del Norte. I also have my obligations there as a congressional wife. So, while I’m working here, I still make the time to go home,” kuwento ni Dawn.

Nag-a-adjust pa rin ba siya as a congressman’s wife?

“Yes, I’m still adjusting, absolutely,” sagot niya. “It’s not very hard. I mean, we all get together, marami kaming bago. Marami kaming mga first timer na mga congressional spouses.”

Obviously, nakikita sa mga mata ni Dawn na happy siya sa piling ng kanyang mister na Anton Lagdameo and their only son na si Jacobo.

“Jacobo is doing very well. He’ll be two next month. Nagsisimula na siya ngayong magtanung-tanong. Pero I think we will enroll him talaga in classes maybe next year pa naman when he turns three,” excited na kuwento ng celebrity mom.

Kailan naman nila kaya susundan si Jacobo?

“Eto na nga, e. Try nga, pero parang habang… Well, right now, nag-e-enjoy pa naman ako, you know, with Jacobo now, with his progress. And then, work also has started to pile up for me. Ginagawa ko muna ito [Lastikman] ngayon. Nag-a-adjust pa rin naman kami ni Anton, but hopefully next year, suwertehin naman ako when we try, mabuntis naman ako,” asam niya.

Ano naman ang gusto nila for their second baby?

“I’ll be 39 on March,” sabi ni Dawn. “Kung hanggang two kids lang ako, sana babae na lang, di ba? Para at least, boy and girl. Pero alam mo, for me, any. As long as the baby is healthy, I’ll be very happy with boy or girl.”

BACK TO WORK. Kailan naman siya gagawa ulit ng pelikula?

“Well, sana magka-offer muna. I really would like to do a movie again. Oo, nami-miss ko rin,” pag-amin ni Dawn.

Anong klase ng pelikula ang gusto niyang gawin kung saka-sakali?

“I don’t know,” sabi ni Dawn. “Any, but a really nice big project, hopefully. It’s a drama sana, you know, may mga makakasama ako na mga bago ngayon na magagaling, di ba?”

Ang Filipinas ni Joel Lamangan ng Viva Films ang huling pelikula ni Dawn. Nakasama niya sa naturang pelikula ang ex-boyfriend niya na si Richard Gomez, na gagawa ulit ng pelikula with Sharon Cuneta, na isa pang naging ex ng aktor.

“Buti pa sila!” medyo nainggit na bigkas ni Dawn.

What about a movie with Richard also?

“Well, it depends on the material, I think.”

Puwede pa rin ba siya sa kissing scene sa big screen?

“Ay, hindi!” sambit niya. “Hindi na. Kaya nga magiging limitado na ako, e.”

Mas maluwag na ba ngayon ang mister niya sa kanyang showbiz career?

“Mas maluwag in the sense na, oo, with time. He allows me naman now to do what I want because, at least, nakatira na kaming lahat dito [sa Manila]. But of course, limit as far as roles that I accept, yung mga ginagampanan ko. I really have to take that in consideration. And personally, I cannot see myself kissing another man anymore. It has been so long,” paliwanag niya.

Kahit si Richard pa ang ka-kissing scene niya?

“Yeah! Kahit someone na nakasanayan ko na noon, hindi pa rin!” tawa niya.

RECONCILIATION WITH GRETCHEN. Last Tuesday ay ginanap ang third birthday ng bunsong anak ni Ruffa Gutierrez na si Venice. Almost lahat ng mga kaibigan ni Ruffa sa showbiz ay nandun, kabilang na si Gretchen Barretto. Pero hindi nakapunta si Dawn with Jacobo.

“Alam mo kasi, lately, talaga sore eyes has been going around. My son has sore eyes ngayon. And then now, his yaya has a sore eyes. So I couldn’t go to the party and spread the virus, you know. And of course, ngayon namamalat din ako. So, it was just not a good time,” paliwanag niya.

But did she intend to go?

“Yeah, I really intended to go, really. It’s just that nagkasakit naman kami,” sabi niya.

Nagkita sana sila doon ni Gretchen.

“Sayang nga!” sabay tawa ni Dawn.

Okay na ba sila ni Gretchen?

“Hindi pa naman kami nagkikita ulit, so hindi ko alam.”

Huli raw silang nagkita during the YES! magazine anniversary party last February 28. But just in case magkita sila ni Gretchen sa isang affair, ano kaya ang magiging scenario?

“Hindi ko alam. Hindi ko alam kaya hindi ko iniisip.”

What if batiin siya ni Gretchen?

“Wala namang kaso ‘yon, e. Hindi naman tayo isnabera.”

Hanggang ngayon ba ay dala-dala pa rin niya ang away nila ni Gretchen?

“Ever since naman wala ‘yon sa akin, e, di ba?” tawa niya.

Puwede na kaya silang magsama ulit sa isang TV commercial?

Natawa muna si Dawn bago sumagot. “Let’s not naman rush, di ba?” sabi niya.

Christian Bautista shrugs off malicious talks about his friendship with Piolo and Sam

All set na ang tinaguriang Asia’s Pop Idol na si Christian Bautista for his first major solo concert this year, ang Christian Inspired, sa Cuneta Astrodome on October 6.

Aware si Christian na sa mismong linggo ng concert niya ay maraming ibang artists na makakasabay na magkakaroon din ng kani-kanilang major concerts. Hindi naman itinanggi ni Christian na nandoon ang “kaba” with the competition, pero hangga’t maaari raw ay ayaw niyang i-entertain ang ganoong pakiramdam.

“Kabado! Kabado siyempre, pero I don’t let it get to me. Kasi kahit na maraming concerts na kasabay, the best that I can do from now is to promote. Like I have posters all over my car. I’m telling my friends,” natatawa niyang sabi sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa presscon ng kanyang concert kahapon, September 14, sa Tempura Japanese Grill, Tomas Morato.

Ano ang masasabi niyang edge niya over the other artists na magkakaroon din ng concert—like Billy Crawford, Erik Santos, and Mark Bautista?

“First, mauuna ako, October 6, I’m gonna be the first with Billy Joe [in Araneta Coliseum], of course. Second, they don’t have the ‘watch-out’ screen [an enormous multi-display presentation technology with the dimension of 9×42 feet that will surround the stage]. I’m gonna be the first in the Philippines who’s gonna use that. Third, I’m going to sing my songs—The Way You Look At Me and some other hits. And fourth, I have wonderful guests, friends.”

Ang mga guests ni Christian sa kanyang concert ay sina Toni Gonzaga, Sam Milby, Kuh Ledesma, Joni Villanueva, Tricia Amper-Jimenez, Sam Concepcion, at Gary Valenciano.

Kapansin-pansin sa listahan ng kanyang guests na wala ang pangalan ng singer-girlfriend niya na si Rachelle Ann Go.

“‘Yon nga, e. Kasi she has a previous booking sa Pangasinan na dating-dati pa na-book. So, it’s far. Although hindi siya part ng show, pero sabi ko sa kanya, humabol siya at sabi naman niya, hahabol daw siya,” paliwanag ni Christian.

Ayon pa kay Christian, napag-usapan na raw nilang “Champions” sa ASAP ‘07 na papanoorin nila ang concert ng bawat isa.

GENEROUS BOYFRIEND. Tinanong din namin si Christian tungkol sa naging pahayag ni Rachelle dito sa PEP na isa raw siyang galanteng boyfriend.

“Galante? Well, I’m learning… Honestly, when I was starting, medyo tipid ako. Pero now, I am learning to be more generous. I am more generous now with my blessing and especially with Rachelle,” saad niya.

So, gaano na siya kagalante ngayon?

“Ngayon? Mas galante!” natatawa niyang sabi.

Ayaw pa sanang i-reveal ni Christian kung ano ang naging gift niya sa nakaraang birthday ni Rachelle, pero nang sabihin namin na sinabi na ng girlfriend niya na isang Louis Vuitton bag ang ibinigay niya sa kasintahan, hindi na nagkaila ang singer.

“Oh, well, sinabi na pala niya… I bought it in London for her birthday. Ano lang ‘yon…to prove to her…kasi, it’s something that she really wanted ever since. Nang maibigay ko nga sa kanya, naiyak siya. Sabi nga niya, ‘Finally, meron na ako,’” kuwento ni Christian.

MARRIAGE. Ayon kay Christian, napag-uusapan na raw nila ni Rachelle ang tungkol sa kasal, pero hindi pa rin daw nila napagpaplanuhan ang bagay na ito.

“Matagal pa, we still have a lot of things to do,” sabi niya. “We’re still young and we don’t wanna rush. For me, 30 is the ideal age. Pero hindi mo nga masasabi. What if everything works out before 30, di ba? Ako, if we have a relationship, that should be our goal.”

Pareho pa rin ba ang goal niya na his first girlfriend should also be his last?

“That’s the ideal for me,” sagot ni Christian. “Pero ‘yon nga, hindi mo rin masasabi. But if I have a girlfriend, my goal is to marry her. So, I’m gonna do my best with this relationship to work. Depende kung mapatagal or mapabilis.”

GAY ISSUE. Hindi na rin pinalampas ng PEP ang pagkakataon na tanungin si Christian tungkol sa paglalagay ng malisya sa friendship niya with other ASAP boys na sina Sam Milby at Piolo Pascual. Ano ang reaction niya rito?

“Well, I heard about that,” pagkibit-balikat niya. “We’re friends. Parang barkada na hindi naman kailangang bigyan ng malisya. Very natural sa show business. Lahat naman binibigyan ng kulay.”

Okay lang ba sa kanya na dahil sa closeness na na-develop sa kanila nina Piolo at Sam ay tila nabubuhay na naman ang gender issue sa kanya sa kabila ng kaalaman ng lahat na may girlfriend siya?

“Actually, it only proves that the gender issue is not true because we’re still willing to be seen and we still go out as friends. Kung umiiwas-iwas kami, baka ‘yon na, may problema. Pero wala naman kaming problema, so we go out. We play badminton. ASAP. Bible study. We help each other. Isang barkadahan,” pagtatapos ni Christian.

Unfortunately, hindi nakadalo sa awards night ang singer para tanggapin ang kanyang award. Hindi naman siya nanghihinayang dahil may valid reason naman kung bakit hindi siya nakadalo. Back to her old form si Sitti pagkaraan niyang magkasakit ng pneumonia. Humarap na rin siya sa ilang press people last Tuesday afternoon para pasalamatan ang mga ito dahil her third album titled Sitti My Bossa Nova from Warner Music Philippines ay pinarangalan na ng gold record award.

Pupunta rin si Sitti sa Bicol para sa dalawang gabing kantahan. Her first stop over will be tonight, 9 p.m. at The Avenue Convention Plaza sa Naga City. The show is titled Cidade de Bossa at produced ito ng Avenue Square ni Gwendolyn Cu (managing director). On Sept. 15 sa Convention Hall ng Hotel Ca-sablanca sa Legazpi City naman siya para sa Bossa Fever with Sitti. The show is produced by Big Poun-der Entertainment ni Alan Rañola.

Juice ko, imadyinin mo, meron na siyang house and lot sa St. Monique Valais, meron pa siyang P1-million contract as Bench model at isa na ring ganap na artista ng Star Magic ng ABS-CBN?

Halata sa mukha ni Ron Morales ang sobrang disappointment, dahil talagang umasang mananalo siya porke sobrang lalakas ng hiyawan at palakpakan dito. Gusto pa ngang bumagsak ng luha nito.

“Actually po, handa na ‘kong matalo, eh. Kasi, ang alam kong mananalo talaga, eh, si Ron. Biglang binanggit ni Kris Aquino ang name ko, kaya medyo natulala pa ’ko!”

Sina Richard Gomez at Lucy Torres ay hindi na rumampa. Nanood lang sila at nag-judge sa final round, kung saan si Regine Angeles naman ang tinanghal na winner sa female category.

Sa mga nakaraang Bench fashion show, kaabang-abang palagi si Jomari Yllana, pero this time, medyo nalungkot ang audience, dahil nakadamit si Jom na parang suman sa pagka-chubby (hindi ko sinabing sa ‘taba,’ ha?).

Edu Manzano ok lang isauli ang PGKNB kay Kris

NGAYONG matatapos na ang Kapamilya Deal Or no Deal ni Kris Aquino sa ABS-CBN sa October 12 (dahil papasok na ang Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition Season 2), mawawalan na ng isang show si Tetay.

One season lang naman daw talaga ang contract ng KDOND with ABS-CBN, kaya tanggap ito kay Kris.

Pero may lumalabas na interviews si Edu Manzano na kung sakaling bawiin man sa kanya ni Kris — o ng management — ang iniwan nitong Pilipinas, Game KNB, eh, game na game itong isasauli ni Edu kay Kris.

Alam naman daw ni Doods na temporary lang ang pagho-host niyang ‘yun ng PGKNB habang on maternity leave si Kris, na na-bigyan naman ng KDOND nga.

Pero, sa later statements naman ni Kris, never niyang naging ugali ang balikan ang iniwan na niya, or bawiin ang naibigay na niya, or something to that effect.

For us — and malamang para sa nakakarami — ang pagharurot sa ratings ng Game KNB with Edu Manzano as host is such an achievement! Kaya hala, at pabayaan na kay Doods ang PGKNB, ‘no!

The high ratings of this ABS-CBN morning game show prove kung gaano kaepektibo bilang host (whatever genre) ang isang Edu Manzano. Even higher, kundi kami nagkakamali, nu’ng si Kris pa ang host ng nasa-bing show.

Nagpaka-gentleman muli si Doods sa isyung ito, bagay na kilala siya sa buong showbiz, nang makapanayam siya ng press sa isang endorsement presscon niya last week.

Kung hindi natuwa ang ABS-CBN sa performance ni Doods sa show, bakit pa siya bibigyan ng 1 Vs 100 tuwing Sabado, ‘di ba?

Minsan lang namin masilip si Doods sa Pilipinas, Game KNB, pero talaga po namang nakakaaliw ang pagdala ng show ng tatay ni Luis Manzano.

Ang guwapo pa rin ng mokong, huh! ‘Pag humirit na ito ng sayaw at indak, eh malalaglag na ang panty ng mga gurlash na nagpapantasya pa rin sa kanya all these years. Ha-ha-ha!

By the way, Edu turns 52 ngayong Biyernes (September 14). Parang nasa-late 30’s lang ang lolo mo sa lakas pa rin ng sex appeal ng potah.

NAPANGITI lang si KC Concepcion nu’ng pa-simpleng tanungin ang dalaga about her rumored boyfriend, Direk Lino Cayetano.

Sa muling pagharap ni KC sa entertainment press (for her KC… Paris to ‘Pinas Special na mapapanood sa ika-23rd ng Sept., 10:30 p.m.) kamakailan, she was asked kung papanoorin ba niya ang I’ve Fallen For You (pelikulang idinirehe ni Direk Lino)?

“Narinig ko na po ang kantang ‘yan. Kinakanta po ‘yan ni Toni Gonzaga.” naka-smile na sabi lang ng dalaga ni Megastar na halatang pa-simpleng umiiwas na siya sa mga katanu- ngang concerning Direk Lino.

‘Yun na! Graduate na si KC. Super excited siyang ibahagi ang naging buhay niya sa Paris, France kung saan siya namalagi ng ilang taon thru her KC special na parang travelogue show na ginawa ng ABS-CBN for her.

Aminado ang dalaga ni Mega na nahirapan din siyang mag-adjust sa kultura sa ibang bansa, at siyempre dahil nasanay din siyang maraming tao sa paligid niya parati dito sa ‘Pinas, nanibago rin daw siya ‘pagdating sa Paris.

In fact, expert na rin daw siya sa paggamit ng laundry machine. Yes, naglalaba si KC. As in natutuhan niya ang mga bagay na hindi niya ginagawa rito sa ‘Pinas.

Since, apat na taon na raw siyang pesco-vegetarian (she only eats chicken, veggies and seafood), mahilig daw siyang gumamit ng bawang sa lahat ng lutuin niya. Marami rin ang bumilib sa dalaga sa pagiging fluent pa rin niyang magsalita ng tagalog.

Aminado si KC na nu’ng nasa Paris siya ay nakalilimutan niya minsan ang ilang words ng Tagalog, pero conscious effort ng dalaga ang mag-research sa internet ng mga salita na nakalilimutan umano niya at nanonood din daw siya ng Tagalog movies sa internet. Hindi raw kasi siya natutuwa sa ibang mga Pinoy na nasa Paris, pero forget nang magsalita ng sarili nating wika.

O di ba, maka-‘Pinas talaga siya.

Kung meron pang isang ipinagmamalaki si KC, ito ay ang relasyon niya sa amang si Gabby Concepcion. Inintriga man ang naging relasyon nila, pero pinatunayan ni KC na sobrang mahal niya ang kanyang papa. Hindi man daw nakadalo si Gabby sa graduation niya, because of his hectic sked in California, si KC na mismo ang pupunta every year sa nasabing state to see her father. So, end na ang isyung pabayang ama si Gabby dahil hindi apektado si KC sa usaping ito.

Kris Aquino, bumigay sa dami ng raket

HINDI nakasipot si Kris Aquino last Wednesday sa live episode ng Boy and Kris. Sumama kasi ang pakiramdam ni Kris dahil sa pagod. After the live show ng Boy and Kris nung Tuesday ay nag-shoot pa ito ng commercial, then tumuloy naman sa Be Bench finals sa Araneta.

Pero ang nakakaloka, may kumakalat na tsismis na kaya raw hindi sinipot ni Kris ang kanyang programa ay dahil hindi raw nito matanggap na natatalo na ng katapat na show ang kanilang Boy and Kris.

Well, hindi po ito totoo. Mataas ang rating ng programa at kuntento sila rito.
Meanwhile, ngayong Biyernes ay aapir na ulit sa show si Kris kasama ang mga tambalang Kim Chiu-Gerald Anderson, Carla Humphries-Victor Basa, Empress Schuck-Dino Imperial at Erich Gonzales-John Wayne Sace.

Studio 23 unreal reality show

May bagong sisimulang palabas sa Studio 23 na talaga namang kakaiba. Isa itong unreal reality show na nagtatampok sa tandem nina Hyubs Azarcon at Justin de Leon na pupunta sa iba’t ibang mga lugar at magsasagawa ng mga nakakatakot, nakakatawa at nakakalokong mga trip sa buhay para sa kanilang kasiyahan at lalo na sa kasiyahan ng mga manonood ng TV. Tulad ng pagtakbo ng hubo’t hubad sa isang open field, pagpapabaril ng pellets ng BB guns, pagiging target ng mga malalakas na hose ng bumbero. Maraming gagawin ang dalawa kahit ikamatay nila, para lamang makapagpatawa.

Para hindi masabing nangopya sa palabas na Jackass, may mga segments na nagtatampok sa mga magaaral ng iba’t ibang paaralan na hahamunin nilang makipag-kumpitensya para manalo ng mga premyo.

Shaina Magdayao at John Prats, four months nang mag-on

Sumusumpa ang source namin na four months nang mag-on sina Shaina Magdayao at John Prats, pero ang nakapagtataka, sa tuwing mai-interview sila, pareho silang tigas sa kade-deny.

Last Sunday lang, na-interview na naman si John sa The Buzz at mega-deny ang aktor. Sa huling panayam din ni Shaina a few days ago, aniya’y close friends lang sila’t walang relasyon.

Dagdag pa ng source, mukhang nagiging seryoso na nga ang relasyon ng dalawa dahil nadadalas ang pagdalaw ni John sa bahay ni Shaina at madalas ding makita ang dalawa sa kung saan-saang lugar.
